Surgical Abortion

A surgical abortion can be performed within 4-18 weeks of pregnancy.  The procedure is performed with local anesthesia and light sedation. It is typically 5-10 minutes to complete the procedure. To discuss your procedure options, please contact us for an initial consultation with one of our experienced clinicians.

The Surgical Abortion Procedure

First Trimester Abortion: This is a one-day procedure that typically lasts about 5-10 minutes. You will need to complete the following at our facility: paperwork, lab work, ultrasound, and a health education session specific to your procedure.

Second Trimester Abortion 13-18 weeks: A second-trimester abortion is most often a one-day procedure that lasts about 5-10 minutes.

For a one-day visit, you will need to complete the following at our facility: paperwork, lab work, ultrasound, and a health education session specific to your procedure. Our providers will give you a medication before your abortion to soften or prepare the cervix. This makes dilation easier and safer.

In some cases, a two-day abortion procedure may be needed. At your appointment, the provider will discuss everything with you in detail. If a two-day visit is necessary, you will receive instructions on the first day of what you can expect the following day.

If you are 18+ weeks pregnant, our trained staff will refer you to a licensed SE Michigan facility. Contact us for more information.

The pregnancy calculator below is only an estimate of weeks pregnant. This calculation does not constitute medical advice. Missing a period does not necessarily mean that you are pregnant. Having a period does not mean you are not pregnant. Only an exam, pregnancy test, or ultrasound by a physician can confirm pregnancy and approximate length of pregnancy.
